Description

The compact ATM230 Artist Series instrument microphone is specially designed for use with drums. The mic’s proprietary capsule excels in high SPL applications, delivering full, well-rounded audio with an exceptional low-end. The hypercardioid polar pattern keeps the focus on the sound source, directionality that is aided by the mic’s low-profile design, which allows it to be placed in a wide variety of setups. All this makes the ATM230 ideally suited for miking toms, snare and other percussion instruments.

Key Features:

  • Metal Construction:
Perfect for it’s suited use of recording drums, we don’t advice hitting your microphone, but it stands a good chance against a drummer in full swim.
  • Hypercardioid Polar Pattern:
Drums are one of the hardest instruments to capture nicely, this is due to the overspill from other elements all competing for the sonic space. A hypercardioid polar pattern allows you to focus on what you want to record and minimise spill from other sources.
  • Included Case:
Who doesn’t like a good case? Keep all your components together between shows or sessions.

Hypercardioid

Hypercardioid microphones use a very tight pickup pattern that focuses strongly on sound from the front while rejecting most noise from the sides. Compared to cardioid microphones, they provide greater isolation, making them useful in situations where background noise or nearby sound sources need to be controlled.

Because of their focused sensitivity, hypercardioid mics are often used for live sound, stage vocals, drum miking and dialogue recording. They do have a small pickup area at the rear, so careful positioning is important, but when used correctly they deliver excellent clarity and separation in demanding environments.

Instrument

Instrument microphones are designed to capture the sound of musical instruments accurately and reliably. They are commonly used on guitar amplifiers, drums, brass, strings, and acoustic instruments, with designs suited to handling high sound levels while preserving clarity and detail.
