Description

HERE'S WHAT AUSTRIAN AUDIO SAY ABOUT THE OD505 Active Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

The OD505 Active Dynamic Vocal Microphone is Austrian Audio’s all-rounder microphone and features exquisite Viennese craftsmanship. With it’s Active-Dynamic-Technology, the OD505 is designed primarily for the stage, though it is also a very capable microphone for studio application. Uncompromisingly robust, it combines all the advantages of a dynamic microphone with the tonal finesse of a condenser microphone.

Featuring Austrian Audio’s proprietary Open Acoustics Technology, the ODC50-SC capsule of the OD505 is mounted as free-standing as possible.  By reducing the contact points of the capsule and the mounting, as well as eliminating unwanted reflections that can be caused by the housing, the Open Acoustics design results in a pristine, natural and resonance-free sound without any colouring.

The active front capsule requires 48V phantom power and, at 4.4 mV / Pa, has almost the same sensitivity as a condenser microphone. With its active circuitry, the OD505’s sound is always consistent, regardless of the internal resistance of the microphone preamplifier or length of connecting cables. The passive lower capsule is polarity-rotated, it senses and eliminates unwanted handling noise. This state-of-the-art dual capsule design, together with the selectable 2nd order high-pass filter makes the OD505 practically immune to noise such as handling noises, bumps and stage knocks.

The OD505 is the perfect choice for any artist, whether lead or backing vocalist. Its amazingly natural sound makes it very easy to shape and highlight a vocalist's strengths.

Ambient noise can be a major problem in many live situations. Therefore the OD505 features a tight supercardioid pattern offering a superb off-axis rejection, ensuring maximum gain before feedback, focusing on the vocal signal in front of the microphone. The overall sound also benefits from this directionality, as elements such as drums or other loud instruments in the immediate vicinity are not unintentionally amplified via the vocal microphone channel.
This makes the OD505 also an ideal microphone for rehearsal room or recording studio applications, especially for sessions with multiple instruments or full ensembles. Radio broadcasters and podcasters will also benefit from the advantages of increased speech intelligibility and minimised disruptive diffused sound.

The OD505 also includes another Austrian Audio proprietary development: The 3D Pop Noise Diffuser. This filter is specially designed for the OD505 and effectively reduces the impact of plosives.

We are proud to say that the OD505 is “Made in Austria; this is your guarantee of world-class quality and sustainability. Only the highest quality materials and techniques are used in the design and manufacture of the OD505, and all our testing is also performed in our Vienna facility where ‘only the best will do’.

Supercardioid

Supercardioid microphones use a tight directional pickup pattern that focuses strongly on sound from the front while rejecting much of the sound from the sides. They offer greater isolation than standard cardioid microphones, making them well suited to noisy environments.

Commonly used in live sound, broadcast and studio applications, supercardioid mics help reduce bleed from other instruments or speakers. Like hypercardioid microphones, they have a small rear pickup area, so careful placement is important to achieve the best clarity and control.
