Description

The Lauten Audio LS-308 is a unique studio and live audio problem solver – a microphone designed specifically for when isolation is needed, but difficult to achieve.

This one-of-a-kind, side address condenser microphone hears like a laser, sounds like a ribbon, and is able to withstand a staggering 135dB of SPL without internal padding.

Track electric guitars in front of a live drum kit; capture the bottom of a snare drum with astonishing dynamics and isolation; and make high-quality recordings even in small, boxy rooms and other less than ideal recording spaces.

Who are Lauten Audio?

Lauten Audio is a family-owned manufacturer of boutique, premium condenser microphones, designed and tested in sunny California (USA).

From the legendary Signature Series and the highly-flexible Series Black; to the hyper-rejective Synergy Series and bespoke Drum Series; each microphone combines Lauten’s trademark sonics with problem-solving features for studio recording and live sound: precision-crafted capsules, unique multi-voicing, built-in high- and low-pass filters, and ultra-high dynamic range.

Lauten Audio Microphones continue to carve out a unique niche for recording engineers, musicians and podcasters seeking original, inspiring microphones with a unique sound, and have featured on records from the likes of Foo Fighters, Cardi B and Snarky Puppy.

Get your recording right first time with the LS-308’s built-in high- and low-pass filters (HP: Flat / 50 Hz / 120 Hz, LP: Flat / 8 kHz / 10 kHz), cutting out low-end rumble and taming harsh treble frequencies, reducing the need to apply EQ from your DAW or mixing console.

Key Features:

  • Analogue Sound Shaping:
Two dedicated filters allow for immediate sound-shaping right at the source, removing the need to change out microphones in order to get the sound you want.
  • Premium Components:
The LS-308 signal path is finalized with high-resolution, low-distortion polypropylene capacitors and resistors, a US-made low-noise FET, and a custom wound output transformer.
  • Dark by Design:
Creating a microphone with such strong off-axis rejection had a unique timbral side-effect — a sound similar to a ribbon microphone but without the fragility.

Ribbon Microphones

Ribbon microphones are valued for their smooth, natural sound and warm tonal character. They are often used on vocals, brass, guitar amps, and room recordings, where a softer high end and rich midrange are desirable. Ribbon microphones are more delicate than other types and typically require careful handling, but they are prized in studio environments for their classic sound and depth.

Ribbon

Ribbon microphones are prized for their smooth, natural sound and warm tonal character. They are especially valued in studio recording for capturing sources without harshness, making them ideal for vocals, guitar amplifiers, brass, strings and drum overheads where detail and depth are needed without exaggerated high frequencies.

Using a thin metal ribbon suspended in a magnetic field, ribbon microphones respond quickly to transients and deliver a rich, balanced midrange. They are often chosen when a classic, vintage-style sound is desired, and they work particularly well in controlled studio environments where their sensitivity and tonal subtlety can be fully appreciated.
