Description
The Sontronics DM-1S Snare Drum Condenser Microphone is currently retailing at GBP 159 and it is in stock. Available to be delivered to you by post direct (some charge may apply). The team at Mic Pro think that Sontronics nailed it with the Sontronics DM-1S Snare Drum Condenser Microphone.
The Sontronics DM-1T and DM-1S, along with the DM-1B represent the British mic brand's first foray into direct drum miking. The microphones took over two years of research, development and testing and, like all Sontronics mics, they offer the best quality and the most professional sounding results but at an incredible price.
The Sontronics DM-1T and DM-1S have been meticulously designed by Sontronics' founder and designer, Trevor Coley, to capture the exact characteristics of your tom and snare: the skin slap, the snare rattle, the attack, boom, decay and so on.
Rather than create one mic that gets good results from either/or snare and tom, these mics have a slightly different frequency response graph to get exceptional results from each drum.
Like the DM-1B (our condenser mic for kick drum and bass instruments), these end-fire pencil-style condensers both have a -10dB pad switch that allow the mics to cope with up to 135dB SPL, and we know that all our drum mics work really well both live and in the studio.
The Sontronics DM-1T and DM-1S have been thoroughly tested to their limits by various session drummers, live musicians and producers, including Flood (U2, Killers, Arctic Monkeys) and Mark Rankin (Friendly Fires, Florence & The Machine).
Hear your drumkit in a whole new dimension thanks to Sontronics’ impressive and unmatchable DM-series mics.
Quotes
“For the new Friendly Fires album we had the DM-1S and another mic that cost ten times more on snare. We had to keep checking the patching because we thought the DM-1S was the £1,000 mic. Incredible!”
Mark Rankin, Engineer/Producer (Florence & The Machine, Queens of the Stone Age, Plan B, Adele)
“These mics capture a full and present sound from both toms and snare with a good transient punch and total clarity. Very competitively priced for the results you can achieve.”
Rhythm Magazine
“The results I’ve experienced with DM-1B, DM-1T and DM-1S have been amazing. I'm recording in a fairly small room and these mics capture the sound of the drums with all the punch and clarity that I need. The detail of the close mics is incredible!”
Pete Parada, Drummer for My Chemical Romance & The Offspring

Condenser
Condenser Microphones are highly sensitive microphones that capture sound with exceptional detail and clarity, making them ideal for studio recording of vocals, acoustic instruments, and other nuanced sources. They work by using a lightweight diaphragm and require phantom power to operate. Known for their wide frequency response and accuracy, condenser mics are a go-to choice for professional audio engineers and producers.
Drum
A drum microphone is specifically designed to capture the sound of drums and other percussion instruments with clarity and precision. These microphones are built to handle high sound pressure levels, as drums can produce loud and dynamic sounds. Drum microphones often have a rugged construction to withstand the physical impact of live performances or intense recording sessions. They typically come in dynamic or condenser types, with dynamic microphones being commonly used for miking kick drums and toms due to their durability, while condenser microphones are often used for overhead miking to capture the cymbals and the overall drum kit sound. Drum microphone kits often include a combination of mics tailored to different drum components for a well-rounded sound capture.

It works by using a diaphragm that vibrates in response to sound waves, which are then translated into electrical impulses. Microphones are used in a wide range of applications, from recording music and broadcasting to public speaking and live performances. They come in various types, including dynamic, condenser, and ribbon microphones, each suited for different recording environments and sound qualities.
