You’ll love this if you’re a musician looking to step up from entry level mics to a decent large condenser microphone. Basic entry level mics are a must have for any studio as even the cheapest of microphones can sound great at the right time. One day though you will want to step up to something that targets a specific sound. The P220 from AKG’s Project Studio range is just that.

Focus On The Midrange

The P220 has a warm and clear sound that is perfect for lead vocals, acoustic guitar and brass instruments. You would look to use this on any instrument that has a midrange focus but has some higher range frequencies that you want to capture without sounding harsh.

Get Recording Out The Box

With the P220 you do get a noticeable upgrade compared to the lower models in the Project Studio range. Not only in the sound quality but also in terms of in the box tools. The included shock mount suspends your microphone so that if rumbling and slight knocks will not come through to the microphone. You also get a metal carrying case so taking this microphone from session to session is easier than ever before.

Keep Your Signal Clear

To help you keep your signal coming through the microphone the P120 has both a -20dB attenuator and bass cut filter built in. These are both switchable by the front panel and allow you to use the mic in tougher conditions without having to worry about the quality. If you are recording a loud guitar amp simply throw on the -20dB attenuator to clean up the signal. Or if you are recording a vocalist who likes to move a lot just pop on the bass cut filter and eliminate their shuffling feet.

Here’s what AKG say about the Project Studio P220 Microphone

The P220 is a large-diaphragm true condenser microphone offering a warm and clear sound for lead vocals, acoustic guitar and brass instruments. A switchable bass-cut filter and attenuation pad make it perfectly suited for use on loud sound sources with sound pressure levels up to 155dB SPL. The rugged and roadworthy design also makes the P220 a perfect choice for on-stage applications.

The P220 represents the most popular and successful microphone within the actual Project Studio Line. It comes complete with a spider-type shock mount in an aluminum carrying case.
