The X1S is the latest innovation in the Hugely popular SE Electronix X1 series. Since its release in 2010 The X1 been the first choice for producers that want a hand crafted all rounder microphone on a budget. Praised for its dynamic range and powerful SPL handling capabilites, the X1 has been a no brainer when you combine its performance and value.
The X1 S offers the next generation for the X1; improved in almost every way whilst being just as affordable as the now classic X1 design.
Like it’s predecessor, the X1 S gets it’s impressive performance characteristics through a hand-crafted 1″ true condensor capsule. Built by expert technicians, each capsule is tuned to make sure that the microphone you buy will be able to capture the minute details of your performances in its recordings.
What’s New on the X1 S
The X1 S has newly designed Electronics that keep noise to an absolute minimum. The original X1 was quiet, but this new ultra low noise design makes the X1 S one of the quietest mics in its price point. This means that you can capture even the most sensitive instruments and quiet voices without tearing your hair out trying to balance the level!
As well as being able to handle the quietest of instruments, the X1 S also now handles the loudest instruments too. The Mic offers both -10dB and -20dB pad switches so that you can close mic even the loudest of sources like a guitar cabinet, or a blasting trumpet without fear of clipping. Also included is the option of 2 switchable low cut filters at 80Hz or 160Hz so that you can easily take control of a wayward low end, deal with the proximity effect or just cut out external background noise like the rumble of traffic.
Other Upgrades
The X1 S comes complete with a rock-solid, newly designed swivel mic clip and thread adapter to fit with any mic stand. The mic offers an all metal housing not only looks great, but it also protects from any electrical interference and noise. What’s more, the XLR connector is now gold plated so that you get the most reliable, loss free connection.

Condenser
Condenser Microphones are highly sensitive microphones that capture sound with exceptional detail and clarity, making them ideal for studio recording of vocals, acoustic instruments, and other nuanced sources. They work by using a lightweight diaphragm and require phantom power to operate. Known for their wide frequency response and accuracy, condenser mics are a go-to choice for professional audio engineers and producers.
Diaphragm
The diaphragm in a microphone is a thin, flexible membrane that vibrates when sound waves hit it. It plays a crucial role in converting sound into an electrical signal. When sound waves strike the diaphragm, it moves in response to the variations in air pressure, and this movement is then translated into an electrical current by the microphone’s internal components. The size and material of the diaphragm can significantly impact the microphone’s sound characteristics, such as its sensitivity, frequency response, and overall sound quality. Larger diaphragms typically provide a fuller, warmer sound, while smaller diaphragms may offer a more detailed and accurate reproduction of high frequencies.
